Effective March 1, 2022
While the pandemic continues into a third year, the Board of St. Louis Audubon Society continues to err on the side of caution in its guidelines for staff, volunteers, and program participants, in order to minimize possible exposure to COVID-19. The policy outlined below replaces our policy statement of August 2021. It relies on advice from local medical experts, and it provides flexibility as conditions change.
SLAS will base its protocols on the 7-day COVID-19 case rate, as presented and routinely updated by the St. Louis County Health Department. On that scale, 100 or more cases per 100K individuals is HIGH, 50-99 is SUBSTANTIAL, 10-49 is MODERATE, and < 10 is LOW. See
The following protocols apply to all participants, volunteers, and staff, based on the case-rate scale:
HIGH and SUBSTANTIAL levels:
- There will be no indoor events sponsored by SLAS.
- All participants in outdoor events are required to be up to date in vaccination status based on eligibility factors for available vaccines and boosters, self-certify that they are up to date, and be prepared to provide proof of vaccination status if requested.
- If not up to date in vaccination status, self-certification of a negative COVID-19 test is required. The test must be taken at least 2 days (if PCR/NAAT) or I day (if antigen) prior to the event. Note: home self-test does not meet this requirement.
- Masks and social distancing are required in large gatherings (50 or more people); in other cases, field trips for example, social distancing is expected but masks are optional when outdoors.
MODERATE levels:
- Indoor events sponsored by SLAS are permissible, but participants are required to wear masks while in attendance.
- It is highly recommended that all participants in outdoor or indoor events be up to date in vaccination status.
LOW levels:
- Indoor and outdoor SLAS sponsored events are permissible without special requirements.
- It is highly recommended that participants be up to date in their vaccination status.
- Social distancing and masking are optional.
If there is a change of case-rate level between the time of registration and the actual event, the protocols for the event will be determined by the level at the time the event occurs. SLAS will make every effort to communicate this.
