Birding Field Trip

SLAS is offering a “Land and Sea” birdwatching adventure at Carlyle Lake on Saturday September 14. Meeting place is the McDonald’s in Carlyle at highway 50 and highway 127. Meeting time is 7:30 am. Figure on an hour-and-a half travel time from St. Louis to be safe. We hope to encounter a surge of migrant passerines at Hazlett State Park and possibly pelagic rarities on the lake, in addition to gulls and terns. The “Pelagic” portion will run from 3:00-6:00 pm departing from the West Access Marina. Please arrive a half hour early if coming only for the boat ride. We will want at least 4 large bags of popcorn like the very large ones available at Dierbergs to attract the gulls behind the boats. Bring one if you can.
